Soil

Diverse soils characterised primarily by Vilafonte and Kroonstad.

Climate

The Mediterranean climate of Klapmuts allows for warm, temperate summers and cold, wet winters. The growing season is characterised by warm, sunny days and constant cooling southerly sea breezes ensures optimal ripening with long 'hang time'.

Tasting Notes

Dark, magenta core with wide, bright rim. Very enticing ripe berry nose packed with mulberry and blackberry followed by attractive earthy and oaky notes. Deep, rich and full in the mouth where chocolate and ripe plum add to the complexity of ever developing flavours. Still fairly tightly packed with firm, grippy backbone of fine tannins. Good body packed with flavour.

Vinification

Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and carefully sorted upon arrival at the cellar. Thereafter, the grapes are destemmed and crushed and the resultant is fermented in stainless steel tanks for up to 21 days. Thereafter the wine is matured in French Oak barrels for 18 months, and after careful blending is lightly fined and filtered before bottling.

When to drink

This wine offers immediate drinking pleasure, but will reward with careful cellaring.
